Getting close

Well, we went to the OB today(for Carrie's b-day!) and Carrie is 2cm dilated. With Ava she was not dilated until after we got to the hospital so this may be a good sign that there won't be any pressure from the OB to induce. Ava heard Ellis' heart beat today and just sat there listening. Of course, the rest of the time she was a total banshee in the exam room. I finally had to leave Carrie after the exam, but while the doc was still in the room answering questions.

The OB said he doesn't think Carrie will make it to her due date of 8/19. We are hoping for 8/10 so that Ellis can share the same b-day as his grand daddy and namesake(well, I am also his namesake). That would be cool.

An update on his kidney. Thanks to his Aunt Tammy, we found out that he had a dilated kidney probably caused by a narrowing of the ureter right where it enters the kidney. Most of the time these resolve on their own without any intervention, but in those cases it is usually that the ureter is kinked and the "fun" of delivery causes it to unkink and drain. In Ellis' case, the Pediatric Urologist says that could happen, but he is not hopeful. He want's an ultrasound of his kidneys 3-4 weeks after delivery. This is not what most people have heard, but the urologist is the expert in the area. So, we should have a normal delivery and then follow up with the urologist after the ultrasound.

Carrie has definitely reached the TOP stage. For those of you who haven't been pregnant or have a spouse that was pregnant, it is "Tired of Pregnancy" and it seems to hit around the time the baby is finished baking. It's not distressing, but there seems to be some sort of shift that probably goes back eons in our evolution that lets the mom know that the baby is coming soon. Anyway, she is there and coincidentally, Ellis is "done" in the baby oven.

I will start updating more often now and will do the same "push-by-push" posting that I did with Ellis.
