Ellis is doing well. He slept most of the night except when he was being checked or vitals taken. I slept at his bedside today and let Carrie have the night off. He just had some blood drawn and the nurses had to draw it from a scalp vein. Although they were vere good, it woke him up and caused him to caugh some, which is probably good, but also painful. He is about to get some morphine to settle him back down. He had some morphine around 10:30 last night so he went basically all night which the nurses say is very good. I don't know, but would guess that the caudal anestesia may be wearing off.
I asked when we could feed Ellis and his nurses said probably not today, but possibly because of his age. This seems to contradict what Dr. Keating told us on several occasions where he said Ellis could eat as soon as he is interested in eating because he is breastfed. We will see the resident this morning and Keating in the evening and will get a clear answer on this issue ASAP. Good thing is that Keating is the attending physician on call this weekend for urology so we will see him all weekend, hopefully when we get discharged.
So far, the only negative is the room. Special Care is almost completely full so they put us in a double room that has a small nurses station in it. I think it is the only non-private room on the floor. For now the bed next to Ellis is not occupied, but I think it is the only open bed in the unit.
